What is a Conductive Big Bag?

A Conductive Big Bag (technically known as a Type C Big Bag) is a specialized, electrically groundable packaging solution used for transporting materials in flammable and explosive environments or for products sensitive to static electricity.

During the filling and discharging of Big Bags, a significant amount of static electricity builds up on the fabric surface due to friction. If this electricity is not discharged, it can cause a spark, leading to an explosion of nearby dust or gases. Conductive Big Bags are designed to eliminate this risk.


1. How Does It Work?

The fabric of Conductive (Type C) Big Bags is integrated with carbon or silver fibers (conductive yarns) woven in a vertical and horizontal grid.

  • These conductive yarns collect static electricity from every point on the bag.

  • The bag typically features a grounding tab (label).

  • During filling or discharging, this tab must be connected to a grounding system to safely direct the accumulated electricity to the earth.

2. Key Features

  • Resistance Levels: The resistance between conductive yarns must typically be less than $10^7$ or $10^8$ Ohms (according to international IEC 61340 standards).

  • Grounding Requirement: For these bags to be safe, they must be grounded. If they are not grounded, they can become more dangerous than a standard bag.

  • Fabric Structure: Usually consists of high-strength polypropylene fabric with woven-in conductive strips.
